I was fortunate enough to speak with a really friendly and knowledgeable man who is the Director of the number one world famous Volo Auto Museum.
His name Is Greg Graham and his every word radiated about how proud he was of the renowned Volo Auto Museum, started by his family and located about an hour north of Chicago in Volo, Illinois.
This grandaddy of car museums has 25 acres of free parking, is open all but three days a year. It will be 50 years old in 2010.
Greg explains with great pride that even though being affected by the business downturn in 2008 business rebounded in July of 2009 and has been headed upward ever since. “You cannot drive a certificate of deposit” says Greg and classic cars hold their value.
He says their entire business is ” debt free” with no obligations to any banks. He also says that attendance records were broken at Volo in the summer of 2009 with all the fabulous, original TV and movie cars on display.
He bubbles with enthusiasm when speaking of owning the absolute original Dukes of Hazzard # 1 car from the early 1970’s which is on display, despite it’s numerous reproductions, and also the very first original cars for the movies Pretty Woman and Miami Vice.
Volo Museum is honored to have been displaying at the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place as an invited guest since 1978.
There are more than 300 cars on display at Volo Museum, a fine gift shop. a very cool 50’s style restaurant and so much more. Check Volo car Museum out at www.volocars.com and visit their beautiful website which tells you so much more then I can.
